Traffic valuation parameters
In this section we assign the parameters that affect the estimation of traffic indices and the highlight color of the values in statistics.
Cheat (click generation) index - reflects the amount of bad traffic coming from a trader. This index is easily affected by the trader's attempts to cheat the system by generating fake traffic.
Difference index - reflects the difference between the trader's traffic amount and the amount of traffic at the system.
Quality index - reflects the quality or the value of the traffic at the system. The values of traffic parameters used in the calculation of it are close to ideal ones.
Minimum unique hits.
Minimum number of hits for a trader allowing the traffic index calculation to be carried out. Thus, if the amount of unique hits for a specific trader is less than this number, the traffic index calculation for this particular trader will not be carried out. The more traffic the trader has got - the more objective is the valuation of his traffic and the better is the quality of his traffic reflected by the indices. Most of the traffic characteristics and the calculation of the indices are determined by the trader's unique traffic.
Rounding of small values.
Setting the neglected value for the traffic characteristics. If the traffic characteristic value is less than this number, it gets neglected during the process of the calculation of traffic indices. Small characteristic values are neglected since they can be caused by the incomplete loading of the page at a given site or by incorrect processing of the system mechanisms by some unpopular browser. Small values are normal for some traffic characteristics and are not regarded as the attempts to cheat the system.
Parameters for the valuation of traffic.
Setting the parameters for the calculation of traffic indices.
Traffic characteristic is the characteristic of the trader’s Web traffic (uniqueness, amount of proxy, etc).
Weight - weight coefficient for a given traffic characteristic responsible for the significance of this given characteristic in the traffic index. Weight coefficient should be higher for the traffic characteristic, which is more important in the calculation of the given traffic index. For example, in the process of detecting fake clicks generation at the system (calculation of the cheat index), the most important criterion is rather the presence of frames and the amount of proxy in traffic than the uniqueness of the traffic. In this case the weight coefficient for the frames should be higher than that for proxy and the weight coefficient for proxy should be higher than that for the uniqueness. In the valuation of traffic quality (calculation of the quality index) uniqueness can be more important for you than the amount of proxy.
Growth speed - speed with which the traffic index grows. It defines how fast the traffic index value will grow when the difference between the current and the given traffic characteristic value (in percentage terms) grows as well. When setting this parameter, you should make sure which one is more important - overriding the given traffic characteristic value (weight coefficient) or the rate of the overriding (growth speed). For example, in the process of detecting fake clicks generation at the system (calculation of the cheat index), the difference between the current and the given proxy amount value will be more important than the same difference for the amount of frames since for frames their presence (high weight coefficient) is much more important than their amount (average growth speed).
Requirement - requirement, restriction of the traffic amount: "more" - more than the given value, "less" - less than the given value, "different" - different by less than the given value.
Standard - given standard value for this or that traffic characteristic (in percentage). Standard value can be the value set by an administrator or the average value for a given traffic characteristic among all traders’ traffic. For the setting of an average traffic characteristic value as the standard "-1" is used.
Neglected difference - neglected difference between the current and the given value for a given traffic characteristic. If the difference is less than the neglected value, this characteristic will not be taken into account in the process of traffic index calculation.
Calculation of traffic indices.
Calculation of traffic indices is carried out only for the traders providing the amount of hits exceeding the minimal value (minimum hits). Traffic characteristics with small values (Rounding of small numbers) and the traffic characteristics different from the given ones by less than the neglected value (Neglected difference) are not taken into account in traffic indices.
In the process of calculation of the traffic indices the coefficient values for each traffic characteristic are determined first, depending on how much the trader’s traffic is different from the given one (standard or average). The difference between a traffic parameter and the given value depends on the imposed requirement: less than the given value (undesirable elements: proxy percentage, unknown browsers), more than the given value (desirable elements: percentage of unique traffic, the presence of backlinks), different by less than the given value (elements that have to lie within a certain range: the presence of scripts, cookies). The value of a coefficient comprises two constituents - the multiplier (weight) and the growth speed. The multiplier defines the weight of a given traffic characteristic in the traffic index (the higher is the weight coefficient, the larger is the impact that the given traffic characteristic produces on the index). Growth speed defines the modulation sensitivity for a given traffic characteristic (the higher is the growth speed, the larger is the impact that the difference rate of a traffic characteristic produces on the final index). After the calculation of all coefficients, their values are added together to form the final index considering different traffic parameters and the rate of their difference from the given values.
Highlight of the values.
8 colors of highlight for the traffic characteristics are available in statistics. They depend on the rate of the difference between the current and the given value. Here the setting of the difference level (rate of difference from the given value in percentage terms) for the highlight colors gets carried out.
